Morphology
Simaba borneensis typically develops into a substantial tree reaching heights of up to 25 meters, supported by a trunk diameter of approximately 25 centimeters and sturdy buttresses. Its foliage consists of oblong, obovate, or elliptic leaves that measure up to 12 centimeters in length and 4.5 centimeters in width.
The reproductive structures feature puberulous inflorescences that give rise to ellipsoid fruits. These distinctive fruits turn a vibrant purplish-red color at maturity and can reach up to 3 centimeters in diameter.

- Taxonomic Journey: The species was originally named Quassia borneensis in 1963 by Dutch botanist Hans Peter Nooteboom before being transferred to the genus Simaba by Christian Feuillet in 1983.
