Gironniera penangiana: Native Tree of the Malay Peninsula

Inhabiting the lowland dipterocarp forests of the Malay Peninsula, this evergreen tree contributes significantly to the structural diversity of the understory. It prefers humid, well-drained soils in partially shaded forest environments.

The species is primarily observed in protected forest reserves and along riverbanks. It remains wild and is not cultivated for agricultural or ornamental purposes.

Morphology

This small to medium tree reaches a height of 15 to 20 meters, with a slender trunk and smooth, dark brown bark. The twigs are glabrous or slightly pubescent at the nodes.
