Eutassa subulata is a towering evergreen tree that can reach heights of up to 50 meters, making it one of the tallest araucarias on the island. It features a very narrow, cylindrical crown, which only begins to spread out slightly in very old specimens. The bark is typically grayish-brown and peels off in thin, papery flakes, revealing a reddish-brown underlayer.
The leaves are distinctly dimorphic. The adult leaves are narrow, sharply pointed, and gently curve inwards toward the stem, distinguishing them from the broader scale-like leaves of other local species. Female cones are large and somewhat spherical, while the male pollen cones are smaller, cylindrical, and borne at the tips of the branchlets.
