Morphology
Specimens of this species reach impressive heights of up to 24 meters, supported by a trunk measuring up to 25 centimeters in diameter. The protective outer bark is characterized by a dark coloration and a smooth texture.
The inflorescences produce small flowers that display hues from white to yellow or light green. These are followed by ovoid to roundish fruits that mature from green to shades of red or blue, measuring about 1.2 centimeters in diameter.
Applications
The bitter bark and leaves are utilized in traditional Asian medicine to treat fevers and malaria. Additionally, the wood is sometimes harvested for light construction and household items due to its insect-repellent properties.
