This subspecies of Torreya fargesii remains relatively obscure and is primarily studied for its evolutionary divergence in leaf size. It forms part of the diverse coniferous understory in mixed temperate woodlands.

Morphology

The tree can grow up to 15 to 20 meters in height, exhibiting a dark greyish-brown bark that becomes deeply fissured with age. Its crown is typically broad and rounded with spreading branches.
