Morphology
This evergreen gymnosperm grows as a medium-sized tree, typically developing a straight trunk and spreading branches. The bark is greyish-brown and becomes deeply furrowed as the specimen ages. Its foliage consists of linear, needle-like leaves that are relatively stiff.
Each needle features a sharply pointed tip and is arranged in two horizontal ranks along the twigs. The upper surface is glossy green, while the lower surface has distinct stomatal bands. Its seed cones develop into drupe-like structures with a fleshy outer covering.

This variety honors Paul Guillaume Farges, who contributed extensively to the botanical documentation of Chinese flora. The seeds of the species are known to remain viable for a long time, enabling regeneration in old-growth forests.
